Movement: 2010 Lace Guild Triennial Competition Exhibition
Walsall Museum

Walsall Museum hosts the Lace Guild's 2010 Triennial Competition Exhibition, presenting contemporary lacemaking on the theme of 'movement' submitted by lace makers from across the country.

The Lace Guild, founded in 1976, is a membership based educational charity and registered museum supporting lacemakers from around the world to enjoy and promote the craft. Our headquarters in Stourbridge is home to a unique collection of lace and lace related items together with an extensive library.

The Triennial Competition Exhibition provides both traditional and contemporary lacemakers the opportunity to exhibit alongside each other showing how technical skills and innovative work that stretches boundaries interact with each other. Each entry has been entered into one of the competition classes and judged for the donated Awards, Trophies and Medals for Excellence. There are classes for groups as well as individuals.

The first competition took place in 1982 and in 1992 The Lace Guild took over the running of this event which has now evolved into an international show case for lacemakers but the importance of the exhibition is to encourage all lacemakers to participate as a measure of their own achievements. Making lace for this exhibition is a fulfilling and enjoyable experience which we hope will be conveyed to all visitors.
